General Information
Elementary students will have 45-minute library classes once in our six-day cycle. During these classes, students will be taught literacy, research, and technology skills, as well as having a chance to checkout books.
Student check out policy: students will be allowed to check out books during library class, when visiting the library with their classroom teacher, or during other times of the day when library staff is available. Books may be checked out for 2 weeks, although students are welcome to renew them as long as there isn't another student waiting for that book.
When a student reaches the maximum limit or there is an overdue or lost book, students can still check out during library class, but the book will remain in his/her classroom rather than going home with the student. This will continue until other books are returned.
4K/K/First grade: 1 book per library visit (maximum 2 books out at a time)
Second/Third grade: 2 books per library visit (maximum 3 books out at a time)
Fourth/Fifth grade: 2 books per library visit (maximum 4 books out at a time)
Staff check out policy: Staff may check out an unlimited number of materials with no due date, with the understanding that others may wish to use the materials and materials should be returned as soon as possible. All materials will be collected at the end of the school year for inventory purposes.
Students are welcome in the library any time a library staff member is present. The expectation is that they will be safe, respectful, and responsible, especially if there is a class learning during that time.
Students are responsible for the books they check out.If any damage or loss occurs to the books checked out, a flat replacement fine of $5.00 will be issued. An alternative to paying the fine can be arranged with the Library Media Director (working off the fine in the library, non-perishable food donation, appropriate replacement book donated to the library).
